Candidate visits city to tout economic plan

Back

www.EmploymentCrossing.com State Representative Dennie Oxley, the Democrat candidate for lieutenant governor of Indiana, visited Shelbyville during a campaign swing through central Indiana, to discuss his economic recovery plan for the state. Oxley and his running mate for governor, former undersecretary of agriculture and U.S. Representative Jill Long Thompson, are touring the state promoting their recently announced comprehensive economic recovery plan. Their "One Indiana Plan" would overhaul the state's tax structure, create "green" jobs, improve infrastructure, lower health-care costs, transform the state's education system, reduce home foreclosures and spur economic development in distressed areas. "Thanks to the disastrous policies of President Bush and Governor Mitch Daniels, our economy is in a near freefall," Oxley said. "Instead of offering real vision for the next four years, the Republicans are trying to distract the voters from the real issues that matter." The unemployment rate in Indiana is at the highest it's been in 21 years. "The state has lost 64,000 jobs in this year alone," Oxley said. For government jobs in Indiana, click here.
