Day 5. It was hard to move.

30/30/30/on the 30th. 30 films in 30 Days, countdown to 30. Prepared for: Master Thesis in Studio Art at Georgia State University Prepared by: Bean Worley, in preparations for graduation Action/Abstraction/Content/Statement At the moment I am working on a series of 30 films for my thesis project. The process involves the action of taking all films that I have created, appropriated, or used in some way and then overlaying them on top of each other. I will make a new film or re-mix an old video I have created or found for each day in October in conjunction with October 30th 2008, which is also my thirtieth birthday. I will display these films on Youtube, and at Get This Gallery II for Le Flash in Castleberry Hill, on October 24th and also on October 30th at Lennys Bar. Later I will take these films and create print work that will be used for display for my thesis show at Get This Gallery in April. I create this process of working this way because it keeps my art making connected to my growth as a artist and a person. I also I can develop a body work based off all my experi-ences and growth over the past thirty year. At the moment, my work is very cannibalistic; I am constantly digesting, reworking, and regurgitating much of my old work into the films. My choices in this process are both personal and random. I line them up and I spend nights and days altering them and as I do, the photo-graphs and films begin to deconstruct, become pixilated, and turn into abstractions. At some points in the films there are as much as 32-42 layers of visual content. I then create still images from the layers of film. I hope to create a book and prints from this process. I will be referencing every year of growth in my life with each film, content will come from my memories of the past. The films will all have specific titles that reference my feelings at points in my life. In one of my early films, the statement I finally acted on my feelings became a starting point for my process of creation as an artist. Here a few of the titles for the films: My first steps, First Grade Twice, I finally acted on my feelings, 3rd grade, Ive finally acted, I kissed someone, I loved, I lost, I was angry, I acted, and I went crazy. The titles reference the content for each year of my life. There are many different layers of meanings; there will be spe-cific messages about masculinity versus femininity, discourses about sexual politics, and content in reference to my experience growing up. Although the more layers I add, the harder it is for the audience to get a spe-cific understanding of these meanings. It is almost as though I am trying to cover up or abstract the content itself in reaction to my own social problems. Clearly, to cover up my meanings I spend a lot of time focusing on the visual output of the work so that it more of emotional response to my life. In the initial stages content and the specific meanings of the images are very important me. This is why I use images from popular culture found in films to help facilitate the connection to the media, consumption and my growth. However, in my final creation I try to get as far away from specific meaning as possible. Its almost as though my process in this sense erases the contents of my life. Not only will the titles give the viewer a hint of the content in my films, also I will pick visual content that reference specific feelings I had in my life. The content is essential in the system I use for art creation, wherein I can exhibit, show, and produce a great amount of work to reference a period in time in my life. These systems are important for me to pro-duce art. I made possibly 10,000 or more images from the films. I randomly choose images that are of great-est visual interest to show in gallery shows and online on my website. Also I am constantly trying to produce more images. I'm a collector, a dumpster diver, a trash man, and I am constantly building my own visual li-brary. This Library is made up of thousands of images from old textbooks, encyclopedias, and images I find on the Internet. Also, in this library I have collected thousands of hours of videos, web and youtube films, and other data files. And I've taken these photographs and videos and reconfigured and layered them to create multiple variations that I consider to be my art, and films. I know that with the 30/30/30 on the 30th project I will have a amazing amount of content and videos to work with.
